CARLISLE, PA -- Bryn Benford (So., Malvern, PA/Great Valley) threw 102'1 and leapt 33-2.25 to win the javelin and triple jump in leading the Franklin & Marshall College women's track & field team to a third place finish at the annual "Little Three" Championships hosted by Dickinson College.
In addition, Benford placed third in the long jump (15-1) and fourth in the discus (104-5), shot-put (32-11.75) and high jump (4-6) to lead the Diplomats.
Jeannette Finster (Jr., LaCanada, CA/Flintridge Preparatory) finished third in the 400 meters (62.12) and 200 meters (28.02) on the track and seventh in the high jump (4-4), while Sarah Primak (Fr., Mifflintown, PA/Juniata) cleared 8-0 to register fourth place in the pole vault.
In the relays, the 4X100 squad of Robyn Haertel (Fr., Millburn, NJ/Millburn), Finster, freshman Lindsay Stuffle and Jackie Bentley (Sr., Mercersburg, PA/James Buchanan) sprinted to a second place finish (53.17), while the 4X400 team of Sara Moser-Cohen (Fr., Fair Haven, NJ/Marine Academy of Science), Finster, Anne Blommer (Fr., Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) and Tara Cooney (Fr., Douglaston, NY/St. Francis) added another second place finish (4:15.9).
Haertel notched a fourth place performance in the 100 meters (13.71), Cooney and Moser-Cohen finished third (2:27.05) and fourth (2:29.58) in the 800 meters and Bentley crossed the line fifth in the 200 meters (29.61).
Overall, the Gettysburg women's team captured its first Little Three title since 1998 after being edged by Dickinson 153-152 in last season's competition. The Bullets posted 158 points while Dickinson finished a distant second with 126 points and Franklin & Marshall placed third with 91 points.
