Dhein & Benford Named 2005 Women's Track & Field Captains

LANCASTER, PA – Franklin & Marshall College head women’s track & field coach Carl Schnabel has announced the naming of Brittney Dhein (Jr., Telford, PA/Pennridge) and Bryn Benford (Sr., Malvern, PA/Great Valley) as team captains for the 2004-05 season. The indoor record holder in the triple jump (36-5), shot put (34-11.75), weight throw (42-6), pentathlon (2620 points), 4X400 relay (4:12.59) and 4X800 relay (9:58.48), Benford holds the outdoor records in the discus (121-03) and hammer (122-0.75), At the 2004 ECAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Williams College, Benford placed 22nd in the triple jump with a distance of 10.10 meters (33-01.75). In addition, Benford placed 13th in the discus with a throw of 35.79 meters (117-05) and 28th in the javelin with a toss of 27.99 meters (91-10). Dhein, who holds the school indoor record in the 4X200 (1:52.26), joined Tara Cooney (Jr., Douglaston, NY/St. Francis), Jeannette Finster ‘04, and Libby Haas (So., Wrightsville, PA/Eastern) as the quartet sprinted to a time of 4:15.21 to finish 13th in the Centennial/Middle Atlantic Conference 4X400 meter relay at the 2004 Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field. Overall, Benford and Dhein helped lead F&M to a fifth place finish at the 2004 Centennial Conference Championship hosted by Haverford College. The placement marked a three spot improvement over the 2003 team’s eighth place finish and marked the second best finish for an F&M women's indoor track team at the Centennial Conference Championship Meet behind the 1995 squad's fourth place finish. Overall, the Diplomats 65 team points marked the most ever scored by an F&M team bettering the previous high of 54 established in 1995. Further, the total also equalled the number of points Franklin & Marshall scored at the 2003 (24 points, eighth), 2002 (16 points, ninth), 2001 (8 points, 10th) and 2000 (17 points, eighth) championships combined. At the 2004 CC Outdoor Championships, the Diplomats placed sixth with 67 points to trail fifth place McDaniel by only three points. Franklin & Marshall will open the 2004-05 season on December 5 at the Haverford College Invitational. Start time is set for 10:00 a.m.
