LANCASTER, PA - Meredith Janeczek (So., Hershey, PA/Hershey) placed first in the steeplechase in a school record time of 11:49.27 to lead the Franklin & Marshall women’s track & field team at the 2005 Little Three Championships at Sponaugle-Williamson Field. Janeczek’s time erases the previous record of 12:02.00 from the 2004 season and is a dramatic improvement over her third place finish in 13:02.40 at the 2004 Little Three meet at Gettysburg College. Further, she is 28 seconds away from provisionally qualifying for the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship meet. Colette Buchanan (Fr., Hershey, PA/Hershey) and Shannon Weir (Fr., Villanova, PA/Upper Merion) finished in fourth (13:05.61) and fifth (13:16.94) behind Janeczek in the steeplechase. The women’s 4X100 meter relay placed second in a time of 53.58, while Janeczek finished third in 5:12.31, Virginia Earl (Fr., Strasburg, PA/Norwood-Norfolk) was seventh in 5:26.53 and Jayme Ewanichak (Fr., Haddon Heights, NJ/Bishop Eustace) placed ninth in 5:32.34 in the 1,500 meters. Tara Cooney (Jr., Douglaston, NY/St. Francis) and Libby Haas (So., Wrightsville, PA/Eastern York) placed second (1:03.0) and third (1:03.64) in the 400 meters, Brittney Dhein (Jr., Telford, PA/Pennridge) and Terry Faber (Fr., Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) finished fourth (13.65) and sixth (15.27) in the 100 meters, while Janeczek and Weir were fifth (1:20.27) and sixth (1:25.07) in the 400 meter hurdles. In the 800 meters, Nicole Salenetri (So., Crosswicks, NJ/Northern Burlington) placed second in 2:29.26, while Buchanan and Ewanichak finished seventh (2:42.05) and 11th (2:51.48), while Dhein, Haas and Cooney crossed the line in third (28.37), fourth (28.77) and seventh (28.99) in the 200 meters. The Diplomats concluded the meet as Karen Ziga (So., Haverford, PA/Haverford), Megan Feehan (Jr., West Chester, PA/Henderson), Earl and Julia Schwartz (Jr., Fort Collins, CO/Poudre) finished second (19:15.74), seventh (20:30.08), ninth (20:40.64) and 10th (21:46.52) in the 5,000 meters. In the field events, Bryn Benford (Sr., Malvern, PA/Great Valley) placed first in the triple jump (34’-11”), second in the discus (110’-10”) and the shot put (32’-05.50”), third in the long jump (15’-11.25”) and fourth in the high jump (4’-10.75”), Faber finished ninth in the shot put (22’-02.75), Haas placed third in the high jump (4’-10.75”). Overall, Dickinson captured the Little Three title with 130 points to defeat Gettysburg (122) and Franklin & Marshall (86).
