ALLENTOWN, PA – Bryn Benford (Sr., Malvern, PA/Great Valley) placed fifth in the triple jump (35’-06.00”), 10th in the shot put (32’-11.25”) and seventh in the javelin (105’-01”) for six points to lead Franklin & Marshall College to a sixth place finish on the final day of the 2005 Centennial Conference Women’s Track & Field Championships hosted by Muhlenberg College. Overall, the Diplomats finish with 62 points in the meet as Franklin & Marshall was edged out by Johns Hopkins University (69 points) for fifth place. It marks the second year Franklin & Marshall has finished sixth at the championships as F&M tallied 67 points at the 2004 Championships hosted by Swarthmore College. In other scoring finishes, Tara Cooney (Jr., Douglaston, NY/St. Francis) crossed the line in 1:01.75 to place fifth in the finals of the 400 meters for four points and Meredith Janeczek (So., Hershey, PA/Hershey) finished third in the 5,000 meters in 18:43.81 for six points. In the relays, the team of Libby Haas (So., Wrightsville, PA/Eastern York), Brittney Dhein (Jr., Telford, PA/Pennridge),Benford and Cooney placed seventh in the 4X100 in a time of 53.58 for two points, while the team of Cooney, Dhein, Nikki Salenetri (So., Crosswicks, NJ/Northern Burlington) and Haas finished sixth in the 4X400 relay in 4:14.99 for three points. Muhlenberg College won the women’s title with 173.50 points, while Gettysburg (140), Dickinson (121), Haverford (114) and Johns Hopkins (69) round out the top five teams.
