Benford Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Women's Track/Cross Country Second Team

LANCASTER, PA Franklin & Marshall Colleges Bryn Benford (Sr., Malvern, PA/Great Valley) has been named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II College Division Womens Track & Field/Cross Country second team. The Outstanding Field Athlete at the 2005 Centennial Conference Indoor Track Championships at Dickinson College to lead Franklin & Marshall to a fifth place finish, Benford won the triple jump (34-09.00) and placed fourth in the high jump (5-00.25), fifth in the shot put (34-05.75) and 12th in the long jump (14-09.25) to finish with 19 of the Diplomats 54 points as she became the first Franklin & Marshall track athlete to earn Outstanding Performance honors. At the 2005 Centennial Conference Outdoor Track Championships hosted by Muhlenberg College, she placed fifth in the triple jump (35-06.00), third in the high jump (5-2.50), second in the discus (123-05), 10th in the shot put (32-11.25) and seventh in the javelin (105-01) to lead Franklin & Marshall College to a sixth place finish. She holds the F&M indoor track records in the triple jump (36-5), shot put (35-8), weight throw (43-9), pentathlon (2620 points), 4x400 relay (4:12.59) and the 4x800 relay (9:58.48). In addition, she holds the outdoor track records in the discus (123-08) and the hammer (134-08). A Geoscience major, she earned All-Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll and Franklin & Marshall Delphic Student-Athlete Honor Society honors in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Further, she was awarded the 2004 Wise-Beutner Structural Geology Award and was a finalist for the 2005 F&M Delphic Outstanding Student-Athlete and Senior Athlete of the Year awards. The District II region includes Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
