WESTMINSTER, MD -- Meredith Janeczek (So., Hershey, PA/Hershey) crossed the finish line in 24:05 over the six kilometer course to finish first and lead the Franklin & Marshall College women's cross country team to a third place finish at the 2004 McDaniel College Invitational. Janeczek's victory marks the first time an F&M women's harrier has won a meet since Emily Hughes '03 captured the individual title at the 2000 Battle for the Buggy meet versus Millersville University of Pennsylvania and Elizabethtown College. At McDaniel, Janeczek coasted to the win as she outdistanced Elane Gottshall of Gettysburg (24:18.74) by over 13 seconds and third place runner Jenna Belisonzi of Muhlenberg (24:21.33) by nearly 16 seconds. Overall, she was one of five F&M runners in the top 25 as Karen Ziga (So., Haverford, PA/Haverford), Colette Buchanan (Fr., Hershey, PA/Hershey), Megan Feehan (Jr., West Chester, PA/Henderson) and Jayme Ewanichak (Fr., Haddon Heights, NJ/Bishop Eustace) placed fifth, 14th, 16th and 25th. As a team the Diplomats finished 13 points behind second place Gettysburg and 16 behind invitational champion Muhlenberg. Franklin & Marshall will return to action on September 15 when the Diplomats host Gettysburg and Dickinson in the Little Three Championship meet at Baker Campus. Franklin & Marshall Finishers 1.
