LANCASTER, PA -- Franklin & Marshall College harriers Meredith Janeczek (So., Hershey, PA/Hershey) and Karen Ziga (So., Haverford, PA/Haverford) are rated among the Top 20 in the September 14 Centennial Conference Women's Cross Country Coaches Rankings. A member of the September 15 Centennial Conference Women's Cross Country Honor Roll, Janeczek is ranked second in the Conference behind Dickinson's Emily Hulme. Last week at the McDaniel College Invitational, Janeczek crossed the finish line in 24:05 over the six-kilometer course to finish first and lead the Franklin & Marshall College women's cross country team to a third place finish. Janeczek's victory marked the first time an F&M women's harrier has won a meet since Emily Hughes '03 captured the individual title at the 2000 Battle for the Buggy meet versus Millersville University of Pennsylvania and Elizabethtown College. At McDaniel, Janeczek coasted to the win as she outdistanced third ranked Elane Gottshall of Gettysburg (24:18.74) by over 13 seconds and fourth ranked Jenna Belisonzi of Muhlenberg (24:21.33) by nearly 16 seconds. Further, she finished third at the Little Three Championship hosted by Franklin & Marshall crossing the line in 18:58.7 over the five-kilometer course as she finished behind Hulme (18:39.61) and sixth ranked Andrea Pope (18:57.2) of Dickinson. Ziga is ranked 11th in the Centennial Conference as she placed fifth in 25:11.75 at the McDaniel College Invitational and 11th at the Little Three Championship in 19:47.19. Compiled by Bryn Mawr coach Dan Talbot the rankings are a weekly predictor of placement at the Centennial Conference Championship set for October 30 at McDaniel College. Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on September 25 at the Allegheny College Invitational.
