LANCASTER, PA – Colette Buchanan (Fr., Hershey, PA/Hershey) has been named the 2004 Franklin & Marshall College Women’s Cross Country Freshman of the Year. She opened her collegiate career by crossing the finish line eighth (26:36) over the 6,000 meter course to lead Franklin & Marshall to a second place finish at the Delaware Valley College Invitational on September 4. At the McDaniel Invitational on September 11, she placed 14th (26:14.67) as the Diplomats finished third. She placed 19th (20:26.8) at home in the Little Three Championships 5K versus Gettysburg and Dickinson College on September 15 before finishing 79th (25:56) at the Allegheny Invitational on September 25. At the Dickinson College Invitational on October 2, Buchanan placed 30th in the 4K run in 16:29.57. On October 9 at the Goucher Invitational, she crossed the finish line in 21:06.45 to place 12th as the Diplomats won the invitational title. The meet was historical for the Diplomats as it marked the first invitational win by a Franklin & Marshall College women's cross country team since 1993 when F&M won the Salisbury University Tidewater Invitational on October 16 and the Little Three Championships (F&M 27, Gettysburg 30/ F&M 25, Dickinson 30) on November 3. At the Centennial Conference Championship on hosted by McDaniel College, she placed 32nd (25:32) as Franklin & Marshall finished sixth before Buchanan finished 82nd in 24:59 to lead F&M to 11th place at the NCAA Mid-East Region Championship hosted by Allegheny College.
