Diplomats Place 12th at 2005 NCAA Women's Mid-East Region Cross Country Championship

CARLISLE, PA – Karen Ziga (Jr., Haverford, PA/Haverford) crossed the finish line in 23:40.7 to tie for 30th as the Franklin & Marshall College women’s cross country team finished 12th of 42 teams at the NCAA Mid-East Region Championships hosted by Dickinson College.

The finish marks the second time F&M has finished in the Top 15 over the last two seasons as the team placed 11th at the 2004 Mid-East Region meet hosted by Allegheny College following four straight finishes out of the Top 15 (2000 – 23rd, 2001 – 17th, 2002 – 20th, 2003 – 18th).

Behind Ziga, Meredith Janeczek (Jr., Hershey, PA/Hershey) placed 40th in 24:06.9, Virginia Earl (So., Strasburg, PA/Norwood-Norfolk Central School) 90th in 25:02.8, Katie Byrne (Fr., Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg) 113th in 25:27.2, Megan Feehan (Sr., West Chester, PA/Henderson) 119th in 25”35.3, Colette Buchanan (So., Hershey, PA/Hershey) 136th in 26:03.9 and Karen Blacher (So., Miami, FL/Gulliver Prep) 220th in 28:26.7.

Overall, Dickinson College placed runners in first, second, sixth, seventh, 11th, 14th and 47th place to win the region title and qualify for the national championships.
