Women's Cross Coutry Named USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

LANCASTER, PA -- The 2005 Franklin & Marshall College women's cross country team has been named an All-Academic Team by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

To earn the team academic award, the seven competitors representing a school at one of the eight Division III regional championship meets must combine to compile a 3.00 or better grade point average during the fall semester.

F&M was one of 108 NCAA Division III institutions to gain recognition for their women's teams as there are more than 300 colleges and universities which compete in cross-country on the NCAA Division III level.

It marks the first time F&M has been honored by the USTFACCA as an All-Academic Team since the 1999 earned honors in men’s and women’s cross country.

Members of the Diplomats this year were Karen Blacher (So., Miami, FL/Gulliver Prep), Colette Buchanan (So., Hershey, PA/Hershey), Katie Byrne (Fr., Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg), Virginia Earl (So., Strasburg, PA/Norwood-Norfolk Central School), Jayme Ewanichak (So., Haddon Heights, NJ/Bishop Eustace), Megan Feehan (Sr., West Chester, PA/Henderson), Meredith Janeczek (Jr., Hershey, PA/Hershey), Johanna Jasinski (Fr., Lebanon, NH/Lebanon), Alexandra Racines (Jr., Emmaus, PA/Emmaus), Keira Rakoff (Fr., Larchmont, NY/Mamoroneck), Julia Schwartz (Sr., Ft. Collins, CO/Poudre), Margaret Selzer (So., State College, PA/State College), Lauren Streckfus (Jr., Glen Arm, MD/Dulaney), Emily Weir (Fr., Hummelstown, PA/Hershey), Shannon Weir (So., Villanova, PA/Upper Merion) and Karen Ziga (Jr., Haverford, PA/Haverford).

Franklin and Marshall joins fellow Centennial Conference schools Dickinson College, Bryn Mawr College, Muhlenberg College, Haverford College, Gettysburg College and Johns Hopkins University in having their women’s program recognized by the USTFCCCA.

The Diplomats concluded the season fourth in the Centennial Conference Championships at Johns Hopkins University and 12th at the NCAA Mid-East Region Championships hosted by Dickinson College.
