LANCASTER, Pa. - Seven students in Franklin & Marshall's music department will showcase their directorial talents in the college's annual "Conductors Concert" on Wednesday, April 25 at 8 p.m. in the Ann and Richard Barshinger Center for Musical Arts in Hensel Hall. The concert will feature the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the Franklin & Marshall Philharmonia. The conducting students have been part of a semester-long process that has prepared them to study their own selections, prepare the music, exclusively rehearse an ensemble on the repertoire and take it through the performance. According to Brian Norcross, the college's director of instrumental music, this is a unique opportunity that most undergraduate conducting students do not receive. The students and their featured selections are as follows: Elisabeth Bardenett '07 (Media, Pa.) will direct Galante's Raise of the Son. Katherine Boorman '08 (York, Maine) will direct Copland's Variations on a Shaker Melody. Michael Donohue '09 (West Chester, Pa.) will direct Van De Roost's Puzta. Jennifer Jin '09 (Harrisburg, Pa.) will direct Copland's Quiet City featuring soloists Eric Socrates '08 (Hanover, Pa.) on trumpet and Gregory Grafton '07 (Hopewell, N.J.) on English horn. Michael Warner '07 (Northbrook, Ill.) will direct a premiere performance of William Mogey's '07 (Marietta, Pa.) Sousa's Dream. Kevin Wasielewski '08 (Montague, Mass.) will direct Holsinger's Abram's Pursuit. Jennifer White '08 (Rochester, N.Y,) will direct Gliere's Concerto for Horn featuring soloist Laura Michaels '08 (Acton, Mass.) on horn. The concert is free and open to the public.
