LANCASTER, Pa - The Franklin & Marshall Jazz Ensemble will present its annual Spring Concert Fri., April 13, at 8 p.m. in the Barshinger Center for the Musical Arts. This concert is free and open to the public. The Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Norman David, is one of the strongest liberal arts instrumental ensembles in the northeast. The program will feature an eclectic and exciting blend of compositions and arrangements in styles from swing to Latin to funk to ballads. One of the highlights will be a tribute to the music and artistry of the legendary Artie Shaw. Among the other top-rank composers, arrangers, and bandleaders represented are Billy Strayhorn, Count Basie, Thad Jones, Milt Jackson, Victor Lopez, and Jeff Jarvis. The Jazz Ensemble is composed of some of F & M's finest student musicians who perform with high energy and provide crisp execution and hot improvised solos.
