Franklin & Marshall Students Participate in Art History Conference

LANCASTER, Pa. -Two Franklin & Marshall seniors will participate in the second annual Bucknell University intercollegiate art history symposium on Sunday, March 25 in Lewisburg, Pa. The students will each give a 20-minute presentation based on scholarly research they have conducted for their senior honors theses. Both students are under the supervision of Linda Aleci, associate professor of art and art history.

Amanda Jaskowak, a senior art and English double major from Grove City, Pa., will discuss The Protestant Altarpiece: An Exemplar of Lutheran Institutionalization in the Visual Form. Her project concerns the concept of the Protestant Altarpiece in the Reformation. Jaskowak will discuss the Schneeberg Altar by Lucas Cranach.

Blake Eden, a senior art major and French minor from Cedar Falls, Iowa, will discuss The Triumph of the Eucharist and the Catholic Faith: A Study of the Counter Reformation Art and the Guise Family in 16th Century France. The project concerns the Triumph of the Eucharist over Heresy by Leonard Limosin, a 16th century French enamel in the Frick collection in New York City. Eden will propose a new date and context for the enamel.

Other institutions represented at the symposium are Bucknell, Gettysburg, Dickinson, Bloomsburg, and Penn State. The symposium provides an opportunity for promising young art history students from nearby institutions to meet each other and to present their research in a serious and scholarly environment.

Founded in 1787, Franklin & Marshall College is a coeducational, liberal arts institution. Approximately 2,050 students are enrolled in the college’s 40 academic disciplines. The college’s 170-acre campus is situated on the outskirts of Lancaster, Pa., a vital, historic city located in the heart of Central Pennsylvania.
