LANCASTER, Pa. - As the semester winds down, students at Franklin & Marshall are taking advantage of a unique opportunity to leave behind some of the items they have collected during the past year. These castoff items, ranging from blow dryers to sweatshirts to mini-refrigerators to books, will all be on sale during the Campus Sustainability Committee's second annual "Dump and Run" sale on Sunday, May 6 between noon-6 p.m. in the college's Mayser Gymnasium. All proceeds from the sale will go to benefit the Milagro House and the Threshold Foundation. "At the end of every academic year, students leave tons of good food, nice clothing and functional appliances that they don't want in their dorm rooms, or pile them in trash areas," said Evan Gentry, campus sustainability intern. "We want to make sure that these things are not thrown out, but rather are reused and donated." In 2005, the event's inaugural year, more than $1,600 was raised for an African AIDS orphanage and unsold items were donated to various Lancaster organizations. Likewise, anything this year not sold at the event will be donated locally. Parking for the event will be in the Williamson lot, off Harrisburg Pike. Look for the signs to direct you to the sale.
