The Alumni Development Volunteer Award is presented to an alumna or alumnus who has achieved extraordinary success in assisting the College in its development activities. Ulrich graduated from Franklin & Marshall in 1956 with a degree in history, and later earned a master's degree from Temple University. He has spent the majority of his professional life working in higher education, first in a variety of administrative capacities at Franklin & Marshall and later as vice president for development at Juniata College. In 1982, he joined Marts & Lundy, a fundraising consulting firm, and continued to use his expertise in support of higher education. As 50th Reunion special gifts chair for the Class of 1956, Ulrich drew upon his lifetime of experience in higher education fundraising to help his classmates achieve unprecedented levels of donor support for Franklin & Marshall. In celebration of their 50th Reunion, the Class of 1956 gave nearly $94,000 to the Franklin & Marshall Fund, a total of more than four times their highest prior annual total as a class, establishing a record for a 50th Reunion class. Ulrich’s leadership was a critical element of the class of 1956’s fundraising success, applying the best practices of successful fundraising to his work on behalf of the College. His citation reads, "He set aggressive but achievable goals for the class, his committee, and himself, working tirelessly to ensure that every classmate received personalized attention in their gift solicitations and invitations to participate in Reunion. His energy, optimism, and drive served as a profound source of inspiration and motivation to both his fellow volunteers and to the development staff, with whom he worked closely."
