LANCASTER, Pa. - Nancy E. Collins, director of public affairs at Bryn Mawr College, has been named vice president for college communications at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa. She will begin her duties on Sept. 10. "Nancy's breadth of professional experience and the broad range of her talents make her the ideal fit for this position," said Franklin & Marshall President John A. Fry, who announced her appointment. In her new role, Collins will lead institutional efforts to plan, develop and execute effective marketing strategies, communications and media relations programs. "Like Ben Franklin, Franklin & Marshall College has long been known for practicality and brilliance" said Collins. "The past five years have added new reasons for prospective students to apply and for alumni to have pride, including an innovative first-year residential experience and a greatly enhanced physical campus. I look forward to helping F&M obtain the wider recognition it so richly deserves." During her eight years at Bryn Mawr, Collins initiated market research that led to a positioning statement, raised the bar for media relations from reactive to strategic, developed new print and online communications, created an award-winning Web site, and counseled senior management through several institutional challenges. Last year, she planned and executed the launch of a center named for Katharine Hepburn, garnering unprecedented worldwide visibility for Bryn Mawr. Collins previously managed corporate communications for Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, Inc., (then McNeil Pharmaceutical in Spring House, Pa.), a Johnson & Johnson Company. Earlier she directed public relations for The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, directed public affairs for Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (then in Hanover, N.H.), and coordinated media relations for The Children's Hospital, Boston. Collins earned her A.B. from Bowdoin College. She currently serves as president of the Bowdoin College Alumni Council. A native of Caribou, Maine, Collins lives in Haverford, Pa., with her husband Richard Sperry and daughter Isabel.
