LANCASTER, Pa. - A world premiere of the film "The Tsunami's Wake: Healing from Trauma" will take place at Franklin & Marshall College on Friday, Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the Roschel Performing Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public. This documentary, produced for international broadcast by Mennonite Central Committee, was written, directed, and edited by F&M Professor Dirk Eitzen and shot by Adjunct Professor Andrea Campbell. The film will be followed by a question and answer session, and a reception in the Kreisel Lobby, courtesy of F&M’s International House. According to Eitzen, "more than two years after the devastating South Asian tsunami of Dec. 26, 2004, physical scars remain. Less obvious but every bit as real are the psychological and social wounds, known as trauma, that continue to afflict countless individuals and communities in Tsunami-stricken areas." But, according to Eitzen, there are also remarkable stories of healing from trauma, stories that shed light on how we can help wounded minds heal, not just after disasters, but wherever people are experiencing emotional suffering and trauma. The Tsunami’s Wake tells five such stories, from some of the hardest-hit areas in Indonesia and India.
