"Drawings from the Inside" Peter Mollkenkof Aug. 29-Sept. 30, Rothman Gallery Opening Reception, Sept. 11, 4:30 p.m. Lancastrian Mollenkof was born in Philadelphia in 1949. He received his B.F.A. fro Tyler School of Art and an M.F.A. from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He lived in Japan between 1977 and 2000 where he taught studio art, exhibited and wrote about art. He is affiliated with Messiah College where he served as the director of the Aughinbaugh Art Gallery and teaches studio arts. "I try to make work that succeeds in formal terms and at the same time avoids obvious interpretations or association," said Mollenkof. "The 'subjects' in my drawings are mostly based on natural forms and organic shapes, but also rely heavily on subliminal impulse and sensation. My paintings explore formal and stylistic relationships that emerge from a purely intuitive process of synthesis by experimentation." More information about Mollenkof can be found at his website: http://wwwpetermollenkof.com. For further information about any of these exhibits, please contact Claire Giblin at 291-3879. The Phillips Museum of Art is open 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Tuesday-Friday; 12:30-4:30 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays throughout the academic year. The museum is closed on legal holidays and during the College's fall break Oct. 12-17 and Thanksgiving break (Nov. 20-26). Admission is free and open to the public.
